Eco-justice Ethiopia in collaboration with Defend the Environment organized a training workshop for lawyers at Harmony Hotel. The workshop was aimed at sensitizing lawyers on issues of climate justice, environmental rights and public interest litigation(PIL). Participants from stakeholder government institutions [including Federal and Addis Ababa Environmental Protection Authority as well as Ministry of Justice] attended the workshop together with CSOs working on Human rights.
The workshop ended with a consultation on how to build momentum on the few success stories of public interest litigation we have. Here commitment of lawyers to volunteer to take on Environmental PILs was noted. Further more the need to work with Ministry of Justice to help build a system that would encourage lawyers to commit to taking on a certain number of environmental PIL cases was highlighted by Eco-justice Ethiopia.
