From July 1–5, our team was on the ground in Nairobi, Kenya, actively engaging in two high-impact events around the global plastics treaty process:
🟢 On July 1–2, we participated in the African Civil Society Workshop on the Global Plastics Treaty, hosted by CEJAD. This gathering brought together CSOs from across Africa to reflect on the Chair’s Text, enhance strategic understanding of negotiation procedures, and unify civil society advocacy ahead of INC-5.2.
🟢 From July 3–5, we joined the Regional Consultations of the Group of African States at the United Nations Office in Nairobi. It was a critical platform for shaping the region’s positions in advance of the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2).
Across platforms, Eco-Justice Ethiopia continues to emphasize:
The need for a treaty that addresses the full life cycle of plastics
Embedding justice and equity in global solutions
Championing youth leadership and grassroots inclusion
Strengthening Africa’s negotiating coherence and ambition
We’re grateful to CEJAD and UNEP for these collaborative spaces, and we remain committed to pushing for a plastics treaty that prioritizes people, planet, and future generations.
