This past week was dedicated to spreading awareness about the incredible power of Indigenous Knowledge (IK) in tackling climate challenges!
#. Unveiling the Wisdom of Ethiopia: " 'BABO' Gedeo's Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Resilience" Documentary Screening.

Eco-justice Ethiopia's Executive Director, Eskedar Awgichew, had the privilege of presenting Eco-Justice Ethiopia's documentary, at a special event for youth in Addis Ababa. This captivating film explores the Gedeo people's time-tested practices, showcasing how IK empowers communities to live in harmony with nature and build remarkable resilience.
The documentary serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving IK in Ethiopia and across Africa. By integrating these traditional practices into climate change adaptation and environmental protection strategies, we can ensure solutions are culturally relevant, effective, and sustainable.
#. Mobilizing the Youth: "Empowering Our Generation" Talk
The week culminated with an inspiring session with a diverse group of young people at the Addis Ababa YMCA. Here, Eskedar presented on "Empowering Our Generation: Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Action."
This interactive session focused on engaging youth in climate action by leveraging the power of IK. We explored how traditional water management, agriculture, and biomimicry principles can be applied to address environmental challenges in Addis Ababa.
The energy and enthusiasm of the youth group were truly inspiring! Starting to equip them with the knowledge and tools to become climate champions in their communities is essential for building a more sustainable future.

Thank you to UNICEF Ethiopia for organizing the event with your staff on July 19. It was great to learn a little about initiatives to green the UN.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Abubeker Rahmeto and his friends; the incredible youth volunteers who organized the other event at YMCA Addis Ababa on July 20 for these incredible initiatives!

Eco-Justice Ethiopia remains committed to supporting youth-led movements that promote environmental rights and climate justice.
